Augmented reality for artists

Help

Short answers to the most common questions, for visitors and artists alike.

Viewing an artwork

Do I need an account?

No. Viewing an artwork, opening it in augmented reality or reading its label requires no account and no payment. An account is only used to keep favourites, follow artists and post videos.

How do I see the artwork come alive?

Scan the QR code on the label next to the artwork: it opens the artwork’s page. Tap “View in augmented reality”, allow the camera, then point at the original artwork. The artist’s video settles right on it.

Which devices?

The Revart iPhone app is coming soon to the App Store. Meanwhile, augmented reality works in Safari (iOS 16.4 and later) and recent Chrome. Browsers only allow the camera over a secure connection (https).

Nothing happens when I point at the artwork

  • Frame the whole artwork, straight on, from one or two metres.
  • Avoid strong reflections and grazing light.
  • The first time, the artwork takes a few seconds to prepare; after that it opens instantly.

For artists

Which photo should I upload?

A sharp, straight-on photo without reflections, where the artwork fills the whole frame (crop out the wall). Revart rates the photo from 0 to 5 and explains what to fix: below 3, the artwork would be poorly recognised and cannot be published.

Which media?

  • Video: MP4 or MOV, up to 200 MB and 3 minutes.
  • Image: JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 20 MB.
  • Sound: M4A, MP3 or WAV, up to 20 MB and 5 minutes.
  • Up to four layers per artwork, including at most two videos.

Placing layers

The Studio shows the artwork with its layers on top. Move, resize and rotate each layer, adjust opacity, cropping, fade-in or make a colour transparent (keying). Nothing is published until you press “Save”.

The printable label

Every artwork has a 105 × 74 mm label with its QR code. Print it and place it next to the artwork: the QR opens the artwork’s page, then augmented reality.

Shows

A show gathers several artworks (an exhibition, a tattoo studio, an open studio). It has its own page and an A4 poster with a QR code.

Visitor videos

Visitors can film your animated artwork from the app. Nothing appears on the artwork’s page without your approval: you approve or decline each video from your workspace.

Statistics

Revart counts the scans of each artwork, day by day, without knowing who scans: the device identifier is never stored in clear.

Account and data

Export or delete my data

From “My account”: “Export my data” downloads a JSON file with everything Revart keeps about you. “Delete my account” hides it immediately; final deletion (database and files) happens 30 days later. You can cancel until then by signing in again.

Reporting content

Every artwork, artist page and video has a “Report” link. Reporting does not require an account. You can also write to legal@revart.art. A person reads every report and may remove the content or suspend its author.
